For patients who feel anxious during dental procedures, sedation is an ideal option to help them stay calm and at ease. At Brighton Oral Surgeon, we use the latest technology to ensure both comfort and safety when patients undergo sedation for surgical procedures. Our advanced equipment continuously monitors vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels throughout the procedure, ensuring immediate safety at all times.

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is a highly safe and effective sedation method widely used around the world. At Brighton Oral Surgeon, we provide laughing gas to ensure the comfort and safety of our patients during oral surgery procedures. If you have any questions or need more information about laughing gas, don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Is Laughing Gas Safe?

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is one of the safest sedation options available. At Brighton Oral Surgeon, we use laughing gas to provide the utmost comfort and security, especially for patients who experience anxiety during dental procedures. It’s an excellent solution for ensuring a relaxed and stress-free experience.

How does Laughing Gas affect patients?

During sedation, a mask is placed over the patient's nose to deliver the laughing gas. As the name implies, it’s a clear, odorless gas with a slightly sweet smell. Once inhaled, the effects are usually felt within moments, with patients experiencing a sense of calm and deep relaxation. Numbness in the cheeks and gums is a common sensation as the sedation takes effect.

While the patient is being sedated, a mask is positioned over the nose to administer the laughing gas. True to its name, nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas with a faintly sweet aroma. Within moments of inhaling, patients typically feel a wave of relaxation and calm. Numbness in the gums and cheeks is common as the sedation begins to work.

What if I'm very sensitive to sedation?

Nearly everyone can receive laughing gas during their oral surgery, as each dose is carefully tailored to suit the individual patient. This allows patients to fully relax and feel at ease throughout the procedure, knowing that our specialists are working to give them the perfect smile.

What should I know before using laughing Gas?

Before receiving laughing gas, it's recommended that patients avoid eating for at least 2 hours beforehand. While higher doses of laughing gas can sometimes cause nausea in some individuals, such doses are rarely needed. Additionally, patients with blocked nasal passages or a history of claustrophobia may not be suitable candidates for this treatment.
